# Changelog

> Changes to the Paymend API that may affect your integration

**October 2026**

New refund failure codes

[`POST /v1/payments/{paymentId}/refund`](/api-reference/endpoint/refund) can now fail with two new [failure codes](/api-reference/failure-codes.md). Declined refunds already return HTTP `402` with `status: FAILED`; only the codes are new.

* `PARTIAL_REFUND_UNAVAILABLE`: Partial refund is not available for this payment until 72 hours after the payment was created. Refund the full amount, or retry the partial refund once 72 hours have passed since creation. If you receive this code again, retry later.
* `REFUND_TEMPORARILY_UNAVAILABLE`: Refund could not be processed right now. Retry in a few minutes.

In both cases no refund was issued and the payment itself keeps its previous status. `REFUND_TEMPORARILY_UNAVAILABLE` is transient: retry the same request after a few minutes. `PARTIAL_REFUND_UNAVAILABLE` is not: an immediate retry returns the same code, so either refund the full amount or schedule the partial refund for after 72 hours. If your integration treats every refund failure as final, handle these two codes separately. See [Refunds](/manage-payments.md#refunds).
